Dr. Sangeetha Manoharan

Teacher’s Diploma in Bharathanatyam - Academy of Fine Ars (London) (Distinction)
‘Natya Choodamani’ - Academy of Fine Arts (London)
Bachelor of Dentistry - University of Sydney
Bachelor of Science (Nanotechnology) - University of New South Wales.

Sangeetha was introduced to Bharathanatyam at the age of 3 when her parents enrolled her in Bharathanatyam classes almost as soon as she started walking on her own. Her dance education was disrupted over the years spent moving to and within Australia but her passion for this art form never wavered. She continued to learn and perform wherever opportunities arose. In Tasmania she learnt under Shrimathi Viji Gunaseelan. Upon moving to Brisbane two years later she learnt under Shrimathi Chitra Yogi Srikhantha (Nadananjali School of Dance). A year later she formally recommenced her lessons in Sydney under her current Guru Shrimathy Suganthy Thayaseelan (Sydney Kalaabhavanam). She completed her Arangetrum under her guru’s guidance in 2006.

She has performed in numerous solo and group performances since, most notably, at the event of the CD Release Function for ‘Sangeetha Sathangai’ in 2015 - a CD in which all song lyrics were penned by Sangeetha, and the dances choreographed and performed by Sangeetha under the guidance of her Guru Suganthy Thayaseelan. At the occasion of this CD release she was honoured with the title of ‘Kalai Arasi’.

Sangeetha has completed her Teacher’s Diploma in Bharathanatyam under the Academy of Fine Arts (London) with Distinction and has been bestowed with the title of ‘Natya Choodamani’ for her performance in the exam.

For her participation and efforts in the Guinness World Record Universal Dance Record Festival in 2017 she was given the title ‘Natyamani’ under the auspices of Padmabhushan VP Dhanajeyan.

Sangeetha is currently writing a book 'Basics of Bharathanatyam' which aims to cover not only the terminology, theory and techniques that must be understood and practiced by students of the art form as well as general background information for those who are interested in the history and the classical art forms of South Indian origin.  It is hoped that this book will form a basis for students undertaking exams in Bharathanatyam and Carnatic Music as well as connoisseurs of the art forms to refer to.
